GPT Takes the Globe

GPT re-kindled in Italy while China & Russia joins the AI race

5 Min Read Intensity: ☕️☕️

Happy Friday Jr. Caffeinators☀️

What do other countries think about GPT? Absolutely loving it!? Hate it to its guts!? We'll find out in today’s serving of 2 news and 1 tip.

Today’s Starting Sips:

  • Slices of Italian GPTs are back in service 🍕

  • GigaChat has entered the chat 💪

  • LLM fever hits China 🐲

  • When GPT gets hot, creativity sizzles ♨️

Privacy Upgrades Bring GPT Back to Italy 🇮🇹 🎉

Rome Welcomes back ChatGPT 🏟️

Italy embraces ChatGPT once more after OpenAI addresses data privacy concerns. Collaboration is 🔑 . This decision demonstrates AI developers and governments can pave the way for user-centric solutions.

Italian users’ data locked 🔒️

A Love-Hate Relationship: EU's Stance on Tech Companies 💔

At first glance, Italy appears to be quite hard on tech companies. On the other hand, this scrutiny highlights their dedication to protecting their citizens. The enhancements made since the ChatGPT ban in March are both legitimate and essential!

Key enhancements include:

  • Option to toggle user data in model training

  • Italian age restriction > 13

  • Tackling hallucination side effects

  • Improved transparency on user data processing

OpenAI added a toggle button for opt-in/out Training data. Nice job 👏

Embracing AI and addressing its limitations demonstrates how tech-savvy the Italian government is. Just imagine asking one of our congresspeople how GPT works 😂 !

Yes congressman… 😐️

A New Era of Trust 🤝

OpenAI's upgrades address Italy's concerns. This proves that maintaining user privacy is paramount in today's tech landscape. (No Facebook repeats ❌ )

The restoration of ChatGPT and the restrictions imposed by the Italian government establish a benchmark for future AI applications not only in Europe but potentially across the globe.

The real reason why Italy banned GPT 🤢

AI Rocky Competitor: Enter GigaChat 🇷🇺🤖

Russian LLM Contender 🌟

Russia steps into the AI ring with GigaChat (not GigaChad 💪). Its homegrown AI language model, as a competitor to ChatGPT.

On paper, this new contender provides a multilingual platform for AI interactions. However, the motivation is to reduce foreign technological imports from America. Very political as always.

Well played Google… well played 🤣

Russia & China's Homegrown LLMs 🌱

Russia isn’t alone in its pursuit of AI independence; China is also developing its

own LLM: 通義千問 (Tongyi Qianwen). Clever name! It means “seeking the truth by asking thousands of questions“.

So why are they making their own LLMs?

Both nations need to ensure data security by hosting data centers within their physical and digital borders. Talk about technological sovereignty!

Cool shield ideas for the two countries 🛡️

AI Showdown Who’s Ahead? 🏆

However, before you toss ChatGPT aside, there is a major red flag to consider: both GigaChat and TongyiQianwen are not publicly available. This suggests they are still in the testing phase which means they will pale in comparison to mention ChatGPT or Google Bard.

They might be worse than GPT2, released in 2019…

Rudimentary 🤖 vs. Rudimentary 🤖

As GigaChat and TongyiQianwen prepare to launch, Russia and China will face unprecedented challenges including prompt leaking, injections, hacking… the list goes on.

While the US may be leading with GPT and Bard, the gap remains uncertain.

The Battle for AI Supremacy 🥊

Russia and China's LLMs may currently trail behind Google's Bard and OpenAI's GPT-3.5, but their commitment to AI development is essential.

Remember, competition is good for the consumers. The competition will drive advancements in LLM and increase accessibility for users worldwide.

Real winners: consumers 🏆️

Tip of the day

Tuning the Machine with Temperature & Top_p 🎛️

Did you know tweaking GPT's "creativity" is a breeze? Just play with temperature and top_p.

Lower values make outputs more conservative; higher values make them more creative.

*OpenAI advises that users should only tweak 1 parameter at a time since they impact each other significantly which could cause inconsistent results.

How I play with GPT 😆

Feeling curious? Here's how:

  1. Visit OpenAI playground (It requires an OpenAI account)

  2. Input your prompt (e.g., "Tell me a story")

  3. Adjust the temperature or top_p

  4. Press “Submit”

  5. Delight in your output

Keep in mind that GPT is a black box, so feel free to experiment and uncover new possibilities!

Here’s What We Got

Level 2: Standard story with a great life lesson 🥹

Level 5: Turtle as a ballerina? Interesting 🤭

Level 8: Throwing raves for the stinkiest 🧀 !! That’s what I’m talking about 🤣

Don’t recognize the UI I am using? It’s my own creation! If you’re eager to learn how, subscribe and stay tuned!

To-Go Cup 🥤
