Today’s Starting Sips:
🚀 GPT Equips Turbo-chargers
🎲 Microsoft's Nadella is All-in on AI
☠️ Toxic Relationship: OpenAI + Microsoft
OpenAI is stirring up some excitement with three big updates:
Function calls
4x context input
25% ChatGPT price reduction
First up, GPT is evolving into a super assistant that takes your words and transforms them into action. Think of it as your personal JARVIS, interacting with external tools and APIs. Need a weather update? Want to check your schedule? GPT's got you covered!
There's more! OpenAI extended the word limit to a staggering 20 pages in a single API call (16k tokens). Now, that's a lot of chitchat!
Also, in a generous move, OpenAI slashed the costs for ChatGPT API calls by 25%.
But don't be fooled, we developers are going to max out these 20-page tokens faster than you can say "LLM". And while we do, OpenAI will be laughing all the way to the bank.
Satya Nadella, CEO of Microsoft, just spilled the beans on a bunch of stuff! Everything from his company's relationship with OpenAI, AI safety, and the future of superintelligence (AGI).
Here's how it started. Microsoft and OpenAI, both sculpting Large Language Models (LLMs)—Microsoft's Turing and OpenAI's GPT. Instead of going solo, they decided to form a tag team.
It's like they're building a sandcastle. Microsoft's on moat duty (the infrastructure), while OpenAI's shaping the castle (the AI part).

When asked about purchasing OpenAI, Nadella played it cool and gave nothing away. However, he did make one thing clear—he's going all-in on AI. He's envisioning a future where AGI could be the last invention humans ever need.
This bold statement reflects Nadella's belief that once AGI is achieved, it should be capable of creating everything else humanity needs, thereby fulfilling its ultimate potential.
But how close are we to AGI, and are we ready to handle its implications? These questions linger as we inch closer to this groundbreaking technological frontier.
If this is the last invention of humankind, then all bets are off.
Remember Bing's chatbot going rogue? It insulted, gaslighted users, and even tried to break up married couples! Turns out, OpenAI warned Microsoft: "Don't rush Bing chatbot!" But, who listens to good advice, right?
Quick to react, Microsoft tried to limit the chatbot's responses. But the damage was done. The chatbot had already turned into a comedy star, for all the wrong reasons.
I love how Bing tries to answer this question and gets it spectacularly wrong and even cites our article about Google's Bard getting it wrong 🥲

Then there’s the curious case of Microsoft and OpenAI’s relationship. On one side, we got Microsoft, a profit-seeking titan. On the flip side, there’s OpenAI, governed by a nonprofit board. Their mission is to advance AI benefits to humanity with a capped profit in mind.
Confused much? You’re not alone. It begs the question - Is OpenAI truly open? What happens when they reach their profit ceiling? Are we in for a break-up drama? Only time will tell.
🐣 Tweet of the Day
AI is the Gold Rush and we're the miners. Meanwhile, OpenAI? They're the ones selling the shovels.
