Sam Altman wants to shake things up in a BIG way. How big? Think 5-7 TRILLION dollars! That's trillion with a "T"!

The Specifics:

• Huge Money Goal: Sam wants to build more chip factories around the world because there aren’t enough AI chips.

• Global Partners: Sam is talking to different investors, including the UAE, to make his chip-making dream come true.

• Nvidia's Throne: Right now, Nvidia is the king of the AI chip market, but Sam's plans could really stir things up.

My Thoughts:

I think OpenAI is heading in the right direction. It is very risky, but in the correct direction. Vertical integration to avoid roadblocks makes sense. Apple and Google pulled the same move.

As for the price… right now seems kind of premature and unrealistic when there are tons of urgent problems to solve first outside of AI.

Still, props to them for aiming high to unlock AI's potential down the road. Just gotta balance that ambition with what people need today too. They're steering the ship right, just don't go full speed immediately!

㊫ Democratic AI Models in Study

Remember back in May 2023, when OpenAI pushed out grants for AI development with a focus on democracy and humanity?

Well, we got our winners.

The Details:

• Global Participation: 10 teams were selected from a 1,000-application pool. The team members are from 12 different countries.

• Democratic Engagement: The grant focuses on building AI models that are crowdfunded and address difficult questions, such as digital divides and polarized opinions.

• Highlight Project: vTaiwan and Chatham are working on designing policies that could be supported by extremely polarized groups, like Republicans and Democrats.

• Showcasing Results: The teams will work on their projects until Demo Day in September 2024.

Why It Is Important:

OpenAI plans to integrate these democratic innovations into its AI models. The goal is to create a more aligned and ethically informed AI system.

It will be interesting to see if these “Democratic AIs” are more fair and act better. Will more people support and trust the AI if everyone gets a say in how they are built?

🤖 OpenAI’s $500 Million Investment

After asking for $7 trillion, $500 Million doesn’t seem too bad 😅

OpenAI and Microsoft are betting big money that these human-like robots can take over dangerous jobs.

The Details:

• Robot Design: Figure AI is crafting Figure 01, a robot designed to target hazardous job roles, like manufacturing, warehousing, and retail.

• Specifications: Figure 01 is 5’6’’ tall, weighs 130 lbs, and can carry 45 lbs. But it needs 5 hours to charge up.

• Investment Figures: Microsoft and OpenAI may invest up to $500 million in Figure AI. This could value the company at almost $1.9 billion.

• Comparative Status: Figure 01 isn’t as fancy as some competitor robots made by Boston Dynamics. But it marks a big step toward robotic workers.

My Thoughts:

The future’s unpredictable, but one thing’s for sure: automation is coming. Bots are stepping up to take on tough tasks so humans don’t have to.

Companies just have to solve issues like cost, safety, and capabilities. Oh, and they also need to address the fear of bots taking over the world and potentially leading to human extinction 😅
